Description

Vari Tube Recording Channel
Channel Strip

You have experience with digital music production and with handling plug-ins but are aspiring to reach the professional league?
The digital sound editing of voices and solo instruments makes sense if you want to work mobile in the pre-production stage or want to quickly test certain equalizer or compressor types using their digital clones.
During the completion of your mix with the plug-ins, you realise that recorded voices don’t become prevalent, don’t integrate into your mix and clearly sound adapted.

Maybe you made the right decision in quality and bought a good microphone, however a premium mixing console is, to continue with quality, outside of your budget.
So far, you have vainly looked for a solution to that problem. A combination of a premium pre-amplifier, compressor and equalizer whic his made up of the finest components is available in only one piece of equipment and for an exceptionally fair price that is reachable for studios projects.

We at Tegeler Audio Manufactur as musicians had the very same problem and therefore shifted our focus towards the development of such a device. The VTRC. The Vari Tube Recording Channel gives your recording the most up market boutique sound and confident powers of self-assertion, while at the same time creating a perfect integration into the mix.
The device will astonish you with its sound results that are accredited to other high end devices within the top price range when used during blind tests.
It is the first sound refiner worldwide which allows for the combined operation of vari-q and optical compression and therewith offers a sound-spectrum ranging from clean precision to a silky warm vintage sound.
The VTRC absolutely convinced us and that is why we offer you to try out this device without any obligations for 14 days. Simply sign up at the above link and the VTC will be delivered to you on the same work-day (if available).

Technology

Due to the variable nature of the preamp, you can decide on color of the sound of your recording varying from clean direct to vintage fat.
With the passive equalizer built after the Pultec principle, you can add silky soft highs to your recording, give your voice more volume or filter out disruptive frequencies within the area of keynotes.
The combined operation of vari-µ and optical compression of the VTC is a unique worldwide feature that extends your sound spectrum with a fantastically sounding compressor tone.

Optical Compressor

An LED beams onto a light-sensitive resistor and regulates the gain depending on the level. The automatic control of the compressor timing is additionally supported through the memory effect of the resistor. The result is an open-airy and softer compression which keeps the level nicely static but hardly alters the microdynamics of the signal.

Vari-Tube Compressor

With this setting the amplification of a control tube is influenced directly. The control happens directly through the optical compressor. The result is a sound that will find its place even in a dense mix with a sinister presence while never losing its warmth.

The compressors bring the signal to the same level and compress it without compressing it to death. The microdynamics are preserved.

The routing of the compressor and EQ is switchable, it is possible to switch the EQ into the sidechain of the compressor so that frequency dependent compression and de-essing are both possible. If you have a recording that has not yet been refined with the aid of the VTRC, it is possible to edit it also afterwards through the new line input. Thereby the signal does not pass through the Microphone input transformer, but through a separate transformer that has been developed for line level.

All functions of the VTRC (from Preamp to EQ to Compressor) are available to you for the processing of high level signals.

If you want to use the VTRC for stereo signals, it is possible to link them.

New

  • Vari-µ compressor (Opto and Vari-µ comprossor can be used at the same time)
  • Line input with separate line input transformer
  • Two VTRC linkable for stereo operation
  • EQ: 24kHz high boost frequency for additional air band
  • Switchable compressor timing
  • Upgraded tube input stage

Proven

  • Opto compressor (Opto and Vari-µ comprossor can be used at the same time)
  • Passive Pultec-style EQ
  • Microphone preamp, character changeable from clean to fat
  • EQ can be switch before or after compressor

Presets

The VTRC is a device for professionals and does therefore not contain any pre-sets.
However, for the purpose of testing and to get to know the device, we have compiled some settings which for a good starting-point.

Basic settings
all controls set to 0, all switches to the bottom, Mic/Line +48V according to the requirement.
Vocals
Gain set to 10, Input set so that the needle of the meter is just responding. Lowcut for Male Vox set to 80Hz, for Female Vox set to 160Hz. EQ switched on, with High Frequency set to 16kHz and the Boost set to 6. Both Opto and Varitube Compressors switched on. Set the Gain Reduction so the loud extracts don’t exceed 6db compression.
Plucked guitar
Gain set to 1, Input set so that the needle of the meter is just responding. Lowcut set to 80Hz if an additional bass is playing. EQ switched on if necessary, put the Mid Frequency to 300Hz and set the Cut to 3. High Frequency set to 6kHz and Boost to 6. Opto Compressor switched on and set Gain reduction so that the Compression does not exceed 4db during loud extracts. For more assertion increase the gain and adjust the Input.
Contraguitar
Gain set to 1, Input set so that the needle of the meter is just responding. Lowcut set to 80Hz if an additional bass is playing. EQ switched on If necessary, put the Mid Frequency to 300Hz and set the Cut to 3. High Frequency set to 12 kHz and Boost to 6. Varitube Compressor switched on and set the Gain Reduction so that 6db Compression isn't exceeded during loud extracts.
Bass
Gain set to 10, Input set so that the needle of the Meter does not reach below 0. Mid Frequency set to 300Hz and the Cut set to 3. High Frequency set to 2 kHz and the Boost set to 3. Opto Compressor is switched on and set the Gain Reduction so that the Compression lies between 3db and 6db.
Saxophone
